Spend 2 days discovering Shimla, India — Temperate Himalayan foothill climate: mild summers (highs 22-25°C, a welcome escape from the plains below), a wet monsoon July-August that can trigger landslides on access roads, and cold winters (highs 8-10°C, with occasional December-January snowfall). March to June for pleasant, mild weather (highs 20-25°C) before monsoon, and December-February for a chance of snow; avoid July-August landslide-prone monsoon rains on the mountain roads. This itinerary blends Kalka-Shimla Toy Train, Viceregal Lodge (Indian Institute of Advanced Study), The Ridge with free time to explore at your own pace, backed by round-trip flights, handpicked accommodation, and a dedicated travel consultant from enquiry through departure.
DAY 1
Land at Shimla Airport (small; nearest major gateway: Chandigarh CHD) (SLV) and take your included private transfer to your hotel. With limited time on the ground, head straight out to Kalka-Shimla Toy Train — UNESCO World Heritage narrow-gauge railway winding through 100+ tunnels. Round off the evening with a welcome dinner introducing you to local flavors.
DAY 2
Start early with a visit to Viceregal Lodge (Indian Institute of Advanced Study) — Grand colonial-era residence of former British viceroys. Grab a last taste of local life before your private transfer to SLV for your onward flight.
Most foreign nationals require an Indian e-Visa applied for online before travel. Indian citizens need no visa, and OCI/PIO cardholders travel visa-free with a linked foreign passport, a popular hill-station combination for NRI family summer trips.

Shimla is generally safe for tourists who take standard precautions — avoid poorly lit areas at night, keep valuables secure, and use licensed transport.
The local currency is INR. Carry some cash for smaller vendors — card acceptance can be inconsistent outside major hotels and malls.
It also works well for families — highlights include Kufri Fun World amusement rides.

Booked this as a solo trip and it was well paced. Kufri Fun World amusement park in particular stood out. A couple of the transfers ran a little late but nothing that spoiled the trip.

Shimla State Museum alone was worth the trip, but combined with Mashobra adventure zip-line park this itinerary really delivered. Breakfast at the hotel was good every day and the local guide was knowledgeable.

Our trip to Shimla was fantastic from start to finish. The hotel was clean and well located, and the guided visit to Himalayan Bird Park was a real highlight. Airport transfers were on time both ways.

Shimla is stunning and this package covered the essentials well, especially Himalayan Bird Park. The hotel could have been a little closer to the center but transport was easy.
